“I Felt Disrespected” — Veteran Actor Lalude Calls Out Sola Sobowale for Alleged Snub at Public Event
Respected Nollywood veteran Lalude has called out fellow thespian and screen powerhouse Sola Sobowale, accusing her of intentionally snubbing him at a public function, in a move he described as deeply hurtful.
Speaking in an interview with Behind the Fame: African A-List, Lalude recounted how Sobowale allegedly ignored his presence during Olayemi Olayinka’s show, despite being aware that he was in attendance.
“She knew I was there, but she didn’t even come over to greet me,” Lalude stated with visible disappointment.
“I introduced her to the industry years ago through Uncle Jide Kosoko’s production. It’s painful because she’s not even older than me.”
The seasoned actor, known for his consistent presence in Yoruba traditional epic roles, also hinted that status or international exposure should never replace humility and mutual respect.
“She lives abroad now, yes, but that doesn’t mean anything. True wealth is character. That moment showed me a different side of her.”
🧭 Opinion: Respect in Nollywood — A One-Way Street?
Lalude’s comments have once again stirred up conversations around mutual respect among Nigerian entertainment veterans, particularly between those who built the industry and those who later found global fame.
Sola Sobowale, revered for her roles in hits like King of Boys and The Wedding Party, has undoubtedly become a force on and off screen. But fame should never become a barrier to courtesy, especially among those who once shared humble beginnings.
While some may view Lalude’s grievance as minor or emotional, it touches on a deeper issue within the entertainment industry: Has respect become tied to relevance or fame?
In industries like Nollywood — where many pioneers remain under-celebrated — moments like these serve as reminders that legacy isn’t just about who makes the biggest film or trends on Netflix, but how we honour those who paved the path.
🗣️ Fans React:
“Lalude has earned his respect. Ignoring him is a bad look.”
“This industry forgets its veterans too quickly.”
“Sola might have been distracted, but even that needs correction. Greet your elders.”
“Let’s not be quick to drag her — maybe she didn’t know.”
