“Far Above the National Economy” – Fenerbahçe Legend Umit Ozat Slams Osimhen’s €75m Galatasaray Transfer

“Far Above the National Economy” – Fenerbahçe Legend Umit Ozat Slams Osimhen’s €75m Galatasaray Transfer

Turkish football is buzzing after Victor Osimhen's record-breaking €75 million move from Napoli to Galatasaray, but not everyone is celebrating. Legendary Fenerbahçe captain Umit Ozat has raised serious concerns over the financial implications of the blockbuster deal, warning that such a transfer fee may be unsustainable for Turkish clubs.

In a candid appearance on SkySpor’s YouTube channel, Ozat acknowledged Osimhen’s brilliance on the pitch but questioned the long-term economic impact of the transfer.

“Galatasaray did a great job keeping Osimhen. I am not disputing Osimhen’s performance,” Ozat stated.
“However, the cost is far above the national economy. I would say so if Fenerbahçe did the same.”

“Osimhen is a valuable, high-quality, and great player, but for our clubs, these amounts are a lot of money.”

Galatasaray Breaks the Bank

The transfer shattered the Turkish football transfer record, and makes Osimhen the most expensive signing in the history of the Süper Lig. The Nigerian striker, who netted 26 goals in Serie A to help Napoli win their first Scudetto in over three decades, now becomes the face of Galatasaray's title ambitions and potentially their European push.

But while fans are thrilled, critics like Ozat are urging clubs to balance ambition with economic responsibility.

Opinion – Star Power vs. Sustainability

Ozat’s comments highlight a growing dilemma in modern football: the desire for international competitiveness versus financial reality. While Osimhen brings undeniable star power, marketing potential, and goal-scoring guarantee, the price tag could strain Galatasaray’s budget if not backed by immediate success both on the field and commercially.

In a league where financial fair play remains a concern, questions like Ozat’s are valid. Can Turkish clubs truly afford such moves, or are they risking a financial bubble?

Bottom Line: Osimhen’s Arrival Is a Win — But at What Cost?

No doubt, Victor Osimhen is a superstar signing that boosts the league's profile. But the pressure is now on Galatasaray — not just to win trophies, but to make sure this record investment doesn’t come back to haunt them.
