“Am I Overthinking?” – Actor Prince Eke Suggests Insecurity in Benue May Be Linked to GMO Agenda
Nollywood actor Prince Eke has sparked a provocative conversation online after linking the rising insecurity in Nigeria’s agrarian regions, especially Benue State, to what he described as a deliberate global push for Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) agriculture in Africa.
In a reflective Instagram post, the actor questioned whether the persistent attacks, herder violence, kidnappings, and land grabs in farming communities could be strategic disruptions designed to displace smallholder farmers and make way for foreign GMO interests.
“Benue, the ‘food basket of the nation,’ relies on small farmers using indigenous seeds,” he wrote.
“But constant attacks, herdsmen violence, land grabs, kidnappings are forcing them off their land. As food production falls, foreign corporations step in with GMO ‘solutions.’”
Eke warned that this shift could lead to a collapse of traditional food systems, increased dependency on imported seeds, and ultimately, the loss of agricultural sovereignty.
“Insecurity is creating space for GMO interests to take over,” he concluded. “Am I overthinking?”
🧠 Opinion – A Bold Question or a Conspiracy?
Prince Eke’s statement touches a nerve in a country where food insecurity, farmer displacement, and land ownership battles are urgent national issues. His views echo growing concerns among activists and scholars who argue that corporate GMO interests often thrive in regions destabilized by conflict.
Whether or not a direct link exists, his post forces us to ask deeper questions:
Who truly benefits when traditional farming fails?
Why are Nigeria’s most fertile regions also the most unstable?
Are we trading long-term food security for short-term “solutions”?
Even if speculative, Eke's insight encourages critical thinking about the intersection of agriculture, politics, and global economic interests in Africa.
