“I Can Never Survive Poverty” – Jemima Osunde Opens Up on The Culture League Podcast
Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has gotten candid about her biggest fear — and it’s one many can relate to. Appearing on a recent episode of The Culture League podcast hosted by Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, the actress declared that poverty tops the list of things she simply cannot endure.
“My biggest fear in life — I can survive many things, but I can never survive poverty,” Osunde said with conviction.
“I can never do it. Being real and being poor, how does it benefit me? I don’t even want to taste poverty. I’m okay where I am. I don’t want it.”
💼 Money with Morals
While making it clear that financial security is non-negotiable for her, Osunde also emphasized that she draws a strong moral line in her hustle.
She said she’s open to doing anything as long as it doesn’t compromise her dignity, decency, or values.
“I can do anything for money, as long as it doesn’t affect my dignity and morals,” she added.
💬 Opinion – A Bold but Honest Declaration
In a society where conversations about poverty are often wrapped in shame or denial, Jemima Osunde’s bold honesty is refreshing. She represents a generation of young Nigerians who are unapologetically ambitious, and not afraid to prioritize financial independence — while also maintaining ethical boundaries.
Her statement strikes at the core of a national reality where economic hardship is widespread, yet dreaming bigger is often policed by cultural guilt. Osunde’s message is clear: being “real” doesn’t mean accepting lack.
