Crystal Palace Boss Glasner Considering New Role for Christantus Uche
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has hinted at the possibility of deploying Nigeria international Christantus Uche in a new attacking role.
Uche, who joined the Eagles from Spanish side Getafe on deadline day, has already made an impression. The 22-year-old midfielder debuted in Palace’s goalless draw against Sunderland last weekend before featuring again in the Carabao Cup victory over Millwall on Tuesday.
Although naturally an attacking midfielder, Glasner revealed that he is exploring the option of playing Uche as a striker.
“Yes, he could be. He’s also physical. He’s an option that we are considering,” the Austrian tactician told the club’s official website.
Opinion: A Bold Move That Could Pay Off
Glasner’s willingness to experiment with Uche highlights the manager’s adaptability and eye for talent. At just 22, Uche brings energy, technical skill, and physical presence—qualities that could make him a surprise package in the Premier League.
For Palace, who often struggle with depth in attacking options, reshaping Uche into a striker could add an unexpected dimension to their game. Football history is filled with midfielders who successfully transitioned into forwards—think of players like Thierry Henry, who began wide before becoming a prolific striker.
If Uche embraces this challenge, he could not only cement his place in Glasner’s plans but also open the door for greater opportunities with the Nigerian national team.
Sometimes, career-defining moments come from stepping into the unfamiliar. For Uche, this could be the start of a transformation that makes him one of Palace’s most exciting prospects.
