Glasner Backs Christantus Uche to ‘Kick-Start’ Crystal Palace Career After Shining Against Shelbourne

Glasner Backs Christantus Uche to ‘Kick-Start’ Crystal Palace Career After Shining Against Shelbourne

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner believes Nigerian forward Christantus Uche is finally ready to launch his Premier League career after a standout performance in Thursday’s 3–0 win over Shelbourne.

Uche, who has endured a difficult start to life at Selhurst Park since joining on loan from La Liga side Getafe, delivered a goal and an assist in what was arguably his most confident display for the Eagles. The 22-year-old also impressed in Palace’s Premier League win at Fulham last weekend, earning him a place in the starting lineup for the friendly—one he seized with authority.

“Christantus deserved it,” Glasner told TNT Sports. “He showed up against Fulham. He showed he can help us, and he can score goals. That is now for him, maybe the starting moment at Crystal Palace.”

The young forward’s resurgence comes at a time when Palace are in need of fresh attacking spark, especially with injuries affecting several key players.

Opinion: Uche’s Breakthrough Couldn’t Come at a Better Time for Palace

For months, it seemed like Christantus Uche was drifting toward another loan spell marked by frustration and missed opportunities. But football has a way of flipping the script in an instant — and Uche’s last two performances may be the turning point he desperately needed.

His goal and assist against Shelbourne weren’t just statistics; they were a statement. The energy, confidence, and sharpness he showed are exactly what Palace have been lacking in forward areas. Glasner’s public backing also sends a clear message: the door to the first team is open, and Uche now holds the key.

If he builds on this momentum, Palace may discover they already have a hidden gem capable of changing games — without dipping into the transfer market.

It’s still early, but for the first time since his arrival, Uche looks like a player ready to fight for his place, create chances, and give Palace fans something to get excited about.

And truly, nothing sparks a young footballer’s rise like belief — both from his manager and from himself.
