“Stop Saying Yes to Everything” – Dayo Amusa Warns Nigerians in Powerful Message

“Stop Saying Yes to Everything” – Dayo Amusa Warns Nigerians in Powerful Message

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has shared a strong message of self-empowerment with Nigerians, urging them to stop saying “yes” to everything and everyone at the expense of their own peace.

Taking to Instagram, the actress stressed that many people fall into the trap of agreeing with others simply to avoid conflict, a habit she described as harmful and draining.

“Stop saying yes to everything and everyone. Stop agreeing with people just so you don’t upset them. You are not a pushover. You were not born to be stressed and miserable so others can be relaxed and happy,” she wrote.

Amusa further advised her followers to protect their happiness and time, insisting that no one should feel guilty for making decisions that put their own well-being first.

“The world owes us nothing. We are where we are because of our decisions, not because of our circumstances. Stop whining and start taking responsibility for yourself,” she added.

The actress concluded with a rallying note: “Be big & bold enough to say THIS IS MY LIFE!!! and I am responsible for it.”

Opinion:
Dayo Amusa’s words hit home in a society where many people often sacrifice themselves just to please others. In Nigeria, where cultural expectations of respect and compliance can sometimes silence personal boundaries, her message is both timely and necessary.

Too often, we mistake “niceness” for allowing people to walk over us. But as Dayo rightly points out, constantly saying “yes” does not make you kind—it makes you invisible. Real kindness should not come at the cost of one’s peace of mind.

Her advice is a reminder that self-love is not selfishness. In fact, learning to say “no” when it matters is an act of courage, one that prevents resentment and preserves relationships built on respect rather than obligation.

At the end of the day, life is too short to live in misery for someone else’s happiness. Like Amusa said, “This is your life.” Own it, protect it, and never apologize for choosing yourself.
