Iwobi, Aina Urge Nigerians to Believe in Super Eagles Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Iwobi, Aina Urge Nigerians to Believe in Super Eagles Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina have sent heartfelt messages to Nigerians as the team prepares for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

Speaking to the Super Eagles’ media team, Iwobi urged Nigerians to keep faith with the squad:

“My message [to Nigerians] will be to continue supporting us. So if you guys can believe in us and give us the energy that we need to go and get the result that we want to achieve to go to the World Cup.”

Aina, who plies his trade with Premier League side Nottingham Forest, echoed the same sentiment:

“A message to Nigerians is that, you know, we know it’s a tough task ahead of us, but we are ready for the challenge. So keep believing and supporting [us].”

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on Saturday before locking horns with South Africa three days later, in what promises to be a decisive doubleheader in their qualifying campaign.

Opinion: Beyond Words, the Super Eagles Must Deliver

Iwobi and Aina’s words are timely, and indeed, Nigerian fans are known for their passion and unwavering support. But in truth, the relationship between the Super Eagles and their supporters has been strained in recent years.

Disappointing performances at critical tournaments have left fans frustrated, with many questioning whether the team still has the grit and consistency to dominate Africa as it once did. While messages of encouragement are necessary, Nigerians want more than promises — they want results.

The matches against Rwanda and South Africa are more than just qualifiers; they are tests of character. This generation of Eagles must prove that they can rise above inconsistency, show hunger, and play with the pride that once made Nigeria a feared footballing nation.

For the fans, hope never truly dies. And if the Super Eagles can back their words with performances full of fight and flair, they won’t just win matches — they’ll win back the hearts of millions of Nigerians who are eager to believe again.
