Super Eagles Goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye Vows Victory Against Rwanda
Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye has assured Nigerians that the team is fully prepared to secure all three points when they face the Amavubi of Rwanda in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Uyo.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, desperately need a win to boost their chances of qualifying for the tournament set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The Super Eagles were left frustrated in their last home fixture, settling for a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, and Adeleye insists there is no room for another setback.
“We are ready for Rwanda, they must fall. Everybody is ready for the game. We know what’s at stake, and we can’t play with this opportunity,” Adeleye told reporters in Uyo.
The shot-stopper is making a return to the national team after missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad, and he appears determined to make his presence felt.
Opinion: Time for Eagles to Turn Words into Action
Adeleye’s fighting words echo the mood of millions of Nigerians who want nothing less than victory. But while confidence is good, the Super Eagles must back it up with discipline, consistency, and clinical finishing—areas where they have faltered in recent matches.
The truth is simple: Nigeria cannot afford to stumble again. The memory of dropped points against so-called “smaller” teams has become all too common, and every slip makes World Cup qualification harder.
Yet, there’s reason for hope. With players like Adeleye hungry to prove themselves and the squad boasting immense talent across Europe, the Super Eagles have all it takes to dominate Rwanda. What they must now show is urgency, unity, and that true Nigerian fighting spirit.
For fans, Adeleye’s words are reassuring. For the players, Saturday is a test of character. Victory is not just desired—it is mandatory.
