Adekunle Olopade Defends BBNaija Season 10 Housemates Amid Backlash Over Intimate Moments

Adekunle Olopade Defends BBNaija Season 10 Housemates Amid Backlash Over Intimate Moments

Former Big Brother Naija star, Adekunle Olopade, has spoken out in defense of Season 10 housemates following widespread criticism over intimate clips that surfaced from the reality show.

Taking to his X account on Sunday, Adekunle stressed that the housemates are consenting adults and have not broken any moral or legal code by being physically attracted to one another. He reminded viewers that the show is explicitly rated 18, urging critics to view it within that context before passing judgment.

His comments come after viral clips showed housemates Koyin and Isabella in a compromising position under the duvet after Saturday’s night party, while another scene involving Jason Jae and Sultana after the wager task presentation suggested sexual intimacy.

Adekunle condemned what he described as “image shaming” and unnecessary reputation damage targeted at the housemates, insisting that the criticism reflects public hypocrisy and double standards.

“So, because consenting adults ON A RATED 18 show who are clearly attracted to each other get intimate, that’s why you guys are coming up with all these think pieces? The hypocrisy I’ve seen this week alone is laughable,” he wrote.

Opinion

Adekunle’s defense raises an important conversation about societal double standards and morality in entertainment. Reality TV, by nature, places people in a confined, pressure-filled environment, where emotional connections and physical attraction are inevitable. To shame participants for what comes naturally among adults seems unfair—especially when the same critics often indulge in similar or even riskier behaviors behind closed doors.

The larger issue lies in how Nigerian society navigates its conservative values against the reality of modern entertainment. On one hand, Big Brother Naija thrives on drama, relationships, and sometimes intimacy—it’s part of what keeps viewers glued. On the other hand, when those moments surface, moral outrage follows.

This raises the question: Do we watch BBNaija for its unfiltered reality, or do we expect a curated version of morality that aligns with public opinion?

Ultimately, as Adekunle rightly pointed out, the show is 18-rated for a reason. Perhaps the responsibility lies less with the housemates and more with viewers—if intimate content is offensive, the remote control is always within reach.
