Troost-Ekong, Aina Rally Super Eagles Ahead of Morocco AFCON Semi-Final

Troost-Ekong, Aina Rally Super Eagles Ahead of Morocco AFCON Semi-Final

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and defender Ola Aina have sent heartfelt messages of support to the Nigerian national team as they prepare for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash against Morocco.

Both players expressed pride in the team’s journey so far and confidence in the players and coaching crew led by Eric Chelle. Troost-Ekong recently retired from international football just days before the tournament began, while Aina was named in the provisional squad but missed out on the final list due to fitness concerns.

Nigeria head into Wednesday night’s semi-final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat brimming with confidence, having won all their matches so far at AFCON 2025.

In a message shared on the Super Eagles’ official social media platforms, Ola Aina praised the collective effort behind the team’s success.

“I want to send all the best wishes to everyone in the semi-finals – the players, the technical team, the managers, the coaches, the physios, the doctors, and everyone who has been doing an amazing job,” Aina said.

“It’s been really great to watch you play the way you’re capable of playing. Do your best and I wish you all the best luck. I’ll be supporting you from home, sending all my prayers and good wishes.”

Troost-Ekong, who captained Nigeria in previous AFCON campaigns, also delivered an emotional message, applauding the team’s growth and tactical progress.

“My brothers, the day is here. I’m really excited to see you all take on Morocco tonight,” he said.

“I’m really proud of the team. Game after game, you’re getting better and better. Coach, the diamond formation in midfield and the rotation of the players is really working well. If you win this game against Morocco, you’ll get to take the trophy home.

“Stick together, enjoy the moment. Some of you are playing in a semi-final for the first time – these will be unforgettable moments of your life. Fight for each other, give your all, and keep doing what you’re doing. I’ll be supporting and shouting at my TV. I love you all and I have faith in you.”

Opinion & Analysis

Messages like these highlight the strong bond that runs through the Super Eagles family, extending beyond those on the pitch. Even in retirement or absence, figures like Troost-Ekong and Aina remain emotionally invested, offering leadership and encouragement at a crucial moment.

Nigeria’s perfect run at AFCON 2025 has reignited belief among fans, and the public backing from former and sidelined players only adds to that momentum. Troost-Ekong’s tactical observations also suggest a team that is not just winning, but evolving with clarity and purpose.

As the Super Eagles face a confident Moroccan side on home soil, unity, belief and collective responsibility may prove just as decisive as tactics. With the weight of history and the voices of past heroes behind them, Nigeria will step into the semi-final knowing they are not alone—and that belief, sometimes, can be the difference.
