Tinubu Celebrates Nigerian Stars’ Big Wins at AFRIMA, Hails Creative Industry’s Global Rise

Tinubu Celebrates Nigerian Stars’ Big Wins at AFRIMA, Hails Creative Industry’s Global Rise

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian artistes who emerged victorious at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), describing their success as clear proof of the country’s growing influence in African and global music.

In a statement released by the State House, the President praised the award winners for flying Nigeria’s flag high on a continental stage. He noted that their achievements reflect the creativity, resilience and immense talent of Nigerian youths, as well as the steady rise of Nigeria’s creative industry.

Nigeria dominated the awards, which were held from January 7 to 11, 2026, in Lagos—Africa’s entertainment capital. The city was officially announced as host of the 9th AFRIMA by the African Union Commission in April 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

At the ceremony, Rema stole the spotlight, winning Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB & Soul. Burna Boy clinched Album of the Year, while Shallipopi secured Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy.

Phyno was crowned Best African Hip-Hop, Qing Madi won Most Promising Artiste, and Yemi Alade took home Best Soundtrack. Chella emerged as African Fans’ Favourite, while industry veterans Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honoured with the AFRIMA Legendary Award.

President Tinubu described the awards as the result of years of consistency and hard work by Nigerian artistes, adding that Nigerian music has become a powerful cultural voice across Africa and beyond. He also commended AFRIMA for providing a platform that allows African talents to compete and shine globally.

The President further applauded Lagos State for successfully hosting the event, praising Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state government for delivering a secure, world-class ceremony that welcomed artistes and delegates from across the continent.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the creative economy, Tinubu stressed that music, film and fashion remain key sectors with the potential to create jobs, boost tourism and drive national development.

Opinion: A Proud Moment That Reflects Nigeria’s Cultural Power

Nigeria’s sweeping success at AFRIMA is more than just a night of trophies—it is a powerful reminder of how far the country’s creative industry has come. From Afrobeats to hip-hop and soul, Nigerian music now shapes global soundscapes and tells African stories to the world.

The recognition of both established stars and rising talents like Qing Madi also shows that the future of Nigerian music is secure. With continued support from government, private stakeholders and international platforms like AFRIMA, the creative industry can become one of Nigeria’s strongest economic pillars.

Beyond entertainment, these wins inspire millions of young Nigerians to believe that their talent can take them anywhere. AFRIMA 2026 did not just celebrate music—it celebrated Nigeria’s cultural identity, resilience and unstoppable creative spirit.
