Niger Tornadoes Boss Admits Nasarawa United Deserved Win After Lafia Setback
Niger Tornadoes technical adviser, Majin Mohammed, has openly admitted that Nasarawa United were worthy winners following their 2-1 victory over his side in Sunday’s NPFL clash at the Lafia City Stadium.
The defeat, which saw Tornadoes lose ground on the league table, was largely attributed to a sluggish start and missed scoring opportunities, according to the experienced coach. Mohammed acknowledged that his team failed to settle early in the contest, allowing the hosts to take control of the game.
“Not a bad game for us. I think we started slowly and that gave our opponents, Nasarawa United, the edge over us,” Mohammed said after the match.
He revealed that despite making tactical adjustments as the game progressed, his players could not make the most of the chances they created.
“Despite effecting some tactical changes, we couldn’t convert our chances, but we will work towards changing that, going forward,” he added.
The loss has seen Niger Tornadoes drop to eighth position on the NPFL table, with 29 points from 21 matches, slightly denting their push for a stronger finish this season.
Opinion: Honesty and Fine Margins in the NPFL
Mohammed’s post-match assessment reflects a refreshing sense of honesty that is often missing in football conversations. Rather than shifting blame, he acknowledged both Nasarawa United’s quality and his team’s shortcomings. In a league as competitive as the NPFL, slow starts and wasted chances are often punished, especially away from home.
For Niger Tornadoes, this defeat should serve as a timely reminder that consistency and sharpness in front of goal are crucial if they hope to climb back up the table. The positives are there—tactical awareness and chance creation—but turning opportunities into goals remains the difference between mid-table comfort and genuine ambition.
As the season enters a more decisive phase, how quickly Tornadoes respond to this setback may well define their campaign.
