Osimhen Boosts Galatasaray Morale Ahead of Atlético Madrid Showdown

Osimhen Boosts Galatasaray Morale Ahead of Atlético Madrid Showdown

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has delivered encouraging news ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid, confirming that star striker Victor Osimhen is fully focused and ready to return to action.

Osimhen rejoined Galatasaray training on Monday night after concluding his Africa Cup of Nations duties with Nigeria, where the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal over the weekend. According to Buruk, the Nigerian forward wasted no time in showing his commitment upon returning to the squad.

“Osimhen came to the team yesterday and trained with the group. He clearly showed that he wanted to be here and was very focused,” Buruk said during his pre-match press conference.

The Galatasaray boss also confirmed that defender Ismail Jakobs will arrive in Istanbul early on matchday and will be available for selection. Midfielder Sara is expected back in training and will undergo a late fitness test, while Singo and Arda will miss the encounter due to injury concerns.

“Having more players back in the team really lifts everyone’s spirits, including mine,” Buruk added.

Before leaving for AFCON, Osimhen was in electric form in Europe, scoring six goals in four Champions League appearances for the Turkish champions. That run made him one of the competition’s most feared forwards — and his return could hardly be better timed.

Opinion: Osimhen’s Return Could Be Galatasaray’s Turning Point

Osimhen’s presence does more than add goals; it changes the belief inside the team and the fear in the opposition. Atlético Madrid are renowned for their defensive discipline, but facing a striker who thrives on intensity, movement, and big moments is a different challenge entirely.

While fitness after a demanding AFCON campaign is always a concern, Buruk’s comments suggest Osimhen is mentally sharp and eager — often the most important ingredient on European nights. Galatasaray may not enter this tie as favourites, but with their talisman back and confidence rising in the camp, they suddenly look far more dangerous.

If Osimhen can rediscover even half of his pre-AFCON form, Galatasaray’s push for progression in the Champions League could shift from hopeful ambition to genuine belief — and that is exactly the kind of edge needed against a side like Atlético Madrid.
