Amapakabo Laments Missed Chances as Abia Warriors Share Spoils with Wikki Tourists
Abia Warriors technical adviser Imama Amapakabo has blamed poor finishing for his side’s inability to secure maximum points against Wikki Tourists, after both teams played out a 1–1 draw in their midweek fixture on Wednesday.
The Umuahia-based club took the lead through Chukwuemeka Obioma, but Taheer Abubakar later restored parity for Wikki Tourists, denying Abia Warriors a home victory.
Speaking after the match, Amapakabo expressed disappointment with his team’s decision-making in front of goal, noting that wasted chances have been a recurring issue this season.
“The team pressed the panic button too early. We didn’t play to fall, the chances that were created the players couldn’t convert because they were in a hurry,” Amapakabo told Abia Warriors media.
He admitted that goal scoring remains the club’s biggest challenge but remained optimistic that improvements would come before the end of the campaign.
“One of the biggest problems we are having is our inability to convert our chances. We will keep on working hard to get it right,” he added.
Opinion: Finishing Will Define Abia Warriors’ Season
Amapakabo’s assessment cuts straight to the heart of Abia Warriors’ struggles. Creating chances is a positive sign—it shows the system is working. However, football is ultimately decided in the final third, and missed opportunities often prove costly over a long season.
The coach’s comments also suggest a mental hurdle rather than just a technical one. Rushing chances and panicking in front of goal often stem from pressure and confidence issues, something that can only be fixed with patience, repetition, and belief.
If Abia Warriors can sharpen their finishing in the remaining matches, they have enough structure and discipline to turn draws into wins. But if the wastefulness continues, promising performances may keep ending in frustration.
For now, the message is clear: calmness in front of goal could be the difference between an average season and a successful one.
