Inside Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Exit: Dressing Room Rift Exposed

Inside Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Exit: Dressing Room Rift Exposed

Fresh details have emerged following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal as Manchester United manager, revealing that the Portuguese tactician reportedly fell out with several key players before his exit on Monday morning.

According to the Daily Mirror, Amorim clashed with a number of high-profile names in the squad, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund.

Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford lasted just 14 months, a spell now believed to have been undermined by fractured relationships within the dressing room. Reports suggest that the 40-year-old struggled to win the trust of certain players, a situation that ultimately contributed to several exits—both permanent and temporary.

Marcus Rashford enjoyed a bright start under Amorim, scoring three goals in the manager’s first two matches. However, tensions reportedly arose after Amorim questioned the forward’s professionalism. Rashford later spent half of the season on loan at Aston Villa and, upon returning in the summer, secured a one-year loan move to Barcelona.

Alejandro Garnacho also found himself on the wrong side of the manager. The Argentine winger was publicly criticised and controversially dropped for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. He eventually left United in a £40 million deal to Chelsea last August.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho departed for Aston Villa, Antony sealed a permanent move to Real Betis following an initial loan spell, and Rasmus Højlund is currently on loan at Napoli. Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo also struggled for opportunities, starting just once all season—in a League Cup tie against Grimsby Town.

Opinion: A Familiar Manchester United Story

Amorim’s exit feels like another chapter in Manchester United’s long-running cycle of managerial upheaval and dressing-room discord. While managers are expected to impose discipline and standards, history has shown that success at Old Trafford requires a delicate balance between authority and man-management.

Public criticism of young and influential players can easily backfire, especially in a club still searching for stability and identity. Amorim’s tactical ideas may have had promise, but football remains a people’s game—and losing the dressing room often proves fatal, regardless of philosophy.

As United prepare yet another rebuild, the bigger question remains: is the problem always the manager, or does the club need deeper cultural change to truly move forward?
