Besiktas Reject Ajax’s Loan Bid for Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi
Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas have reportedly turned down an approach from Ajax Amsterdam for Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs revealed that Ajax proposed a €2 million loan deal with a €12 million purchase option for the 29-year-old midfielder. However, Besiktas were not convinced by the structure of the offer and rejected it.
Ndidi only joined Besiktas last summer from Sky Bet Championship side Leicester City, quickly establishing himself as a key figure at the club. Just days after his arrival, the Nigerian midfielder was named vice-captain, highlighting the trust and leadership qualities he brings to the team.
Reports also indicate that Besiktas had earlier rejected interest in Ndidi earlier in the transfer window, signalling their determination to keep the experienced midfielder.
The defensive midfielder is currently recovering from an injury sustained during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but remains highly valued by his club despite his temporary absence.
Opinion: Besiktas Sending a Clear Message
Besiktas’ decision to reject Ajax’s bid is a strong statement of intent.
Even while sidelined with injury, Wilfred Ndidi is clearly seen as central to the club’s project. Turning down a loan move with a future buy option suggests Besiktas believe his value—both on and off the pitch—goes beyond the figures being discussed.
For Ndidi, this situation underlines his status as a proven and respected figure in European football. Ajax’s interest is no surprise; his experience, discipline, and tactical awareness would suit their system well. However, Besiktas appear unwilling to weaken their squad or risk losing a leader for what they consider an undervalued deal.
From a Nigerian perspective, it is encouraging to see a Super Eagles captain command such respect at club level. Once fully fit, Ndidi’s presence could be crucial for Besiktas domestically and in European competitions.
In the end, this rejection may benefit all parties. Besiktas keep a trusted leader, Ndidi gets the chance to return stronger and reassert his importance, and Ajax may be forced to reassess the true value of one of Africa’s most reliable midfield generals.
