Oliseh Backs Arsenal for Title Glory but Questions Team’s Mental Belief

Oliseh Backs Arsenal for Title Glory but Questions Team’s Mental Belief

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has shared a bold assessment of Arsenal’s Premier League title chances, insisting that the only obstacle standing between the Gunners and the trophy is their own mindset.

Speaking during a recent episode of Sunday Oliseh’s Global Football Insights, the ex-Juventus midfielder praised Mikel Arteta’s side for their strong position at the top of the table but suggested that a lack of complete belief could still derail their campaign.

Arsenal currently lead the Premier League standings with 53 points from 24 matches, sitting six points clear of defending champions Manchester City. Despite the advantage, Oliseh believes the race remains open because of Arsenal’s psychological approach to the title challenge.

“The only thing that will stop Arsenal from winning the title is this year Arsenal,” Oliseh said.
“This is one of the worst Manchester City teams I have seen in years… This league should have been over if it were not the Premier League. What is holding Arsenal back? The 100 percent belief is still not there.”

A Title Race Still Filled with Pressure

Oliseh’s comments come at a crucial stage of the season, where consistency and mental strength often prove decisive. While Arsenal’s form has impressed many observers, the Premier League’s unpredictable nature means that even a small drop in focus can quickly shift momentum.

Manchester City’s presence in second place also adds tension to the race. Despite Oliseh’s critique of their current level, City’s history of strong finishes under Pep Guardiola continues to make them a serious threat.

Opinion: Belief Could Be Arsenal’s Final Test

From an opinion standpoint, Oliseh’s analysis touches on a key theme that has followed Arsenal in recent seasons — the transition from contenders to champions. Talent and tactics have rarely been the issue for Arteta’s side; instead, the challenge often lies in maintaining confidence when the pressure of expectation grows.

Leading the table is one thing, but carrying the weight of being favourites is another. If Arsenal can transform their strong position into fearless performances, they may finally cross the line. However, if doubts creep in during decisive fixtures, rivals like Manchester City will be ready to capitalize.

Ultimately, Oliseh’s statement feels less like criticism and more like a challenge — a reminder that winning the Premier League is as much a mental battle as it is a footballing one. And as the season enters its final stretch, Arsenal’s belief in themselves may become their greatest weapon — or their biggest hurdle.
