Ilechukwu, Ogunbote, Mohammed and Ozebagbe Nominated for NPFL February Manager of the Month
Four managers have been shortlisted for the February Manager of the Month award in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), following impressive performances with their respective teams.
The nominees include Fidelis Ilechukwu of Rangers International F.C., Gbenga Ogunbote of Plateau United F.C., Azeez Mohammed of Katsina United F.C., and Bright Ozebagbe of Ikorodu City F.C..
Ilechukwu enjoyed a solid month with Rangers, guiding the Flying Antelopes to two wins and two draws in four matches. His side also maintained their position in second place on the NPFL table, keeping the pressure on the league leaders.
Ogunbote also impressed during the period, helping Plateau United climb out of the relegation zone. The experienced coach led his team to three victories and one defeat, a run that significantly boosted the club’s survival hopes.
Meanwhile, Ozebagbe’s work at Ikorodu City has continued to draw attention. Under his leadership, the Oga Boys secured two wins, one draw and one defeat in February. Their impressive run has kept them firmly in third place on the table with 45 points, strengthening their ambition of securing a continental ticket.
Mohammed also made a strong case for the award after leading Katsina United to an unbeaten run during the month. His team recorded two wins and two draws, showing improved consistency in their performances.
The winner of the award will be decided by a panel of Nigerian football experts and is expected to be announced next week.
Opinion: Recognition That Reflects the Growing Competition in NPFL
The February nominations highlight the increasing competitiveness of the NPFL, where tactical discipline and strong leadership are becoming more evident across different clubs.
While Ilechukwu’s consistency with Rangers makes him a strong contender, Ogunbote’s ability to rescue Plateau United from relegation trouble may also weigh heavily in the judges’ decision. At the same time, Ozebagbe’s work with Ikorodu City shows how emerging managers are reshaping the league with fresh ideas and bold strategies.
Ultimately, beyond the individual award, these nominations underline a positive trend: Nigerian club football is gradually evolving into a more competitive and tactically organized league. If this level of managerial quality continues, the NPFL could strengthen its reputation both on the continent and among football fans at home. ⚽
