Arsenal Edge Mansfield to Reach FA Cup Quarter-Finals, Keep Quadruple Dream Alive

Arsenal Edge Mansfield to Reach FA Cup Quarter-Finals, Keep Quadruple Dream Alive

Arsenal F.C. secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after grinding out a narrow 2–1 victory against Mansfield Town F.C. on Saturday.

Despite making several changes to his lineup, manager Mikel Arteta watched his side do just enough to avoid an upset against the determined League One outfit.

Arsenal opened the scoring through Noni Madueke, whose precise strike flew into the top corner to give the visitors the early advantage. However, Mansfield refused to back down and were rewarded when Will Evans capitalised on a defensive mistake to level the match.

With the contest finely balanced, Arteta turned to his bench and introduced Eberechi Eze, who ultimately made the difference. The attacking midfielder produced the decisive moment to seal the victory and send Arsenal into the last eight.

The win means Arsenal remain firmly in contention for multiple honours this season, keeping alive hopes of a potential four-trophy campaign.

Elsewhere in the competition, Liverpool F.C. claimed a 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. at Molineux Stadium on Friday night, just days after suffering defeat to the same opponents.

Other fifth-round fixtures will see Manchester City F.C. travel to face Newcastle United F.C., while Chelsea F.C. take on Wrexham A.F.C. in another intriguing tie.

Opinion: Arsenal Show Resilience, But Tougher Tests Await

While the result keeps Arsenal’s season ambitions intact, the performance will likely give Arteta something to think about.

Facing lower-league opposition, the Gunners were expected to dominate more comfortably. Instead, defensive lapses and inconsistent control allowed Mansfield to stay in the contest longer than expected.

That said, cup competitions are often about finding a way to win, and Arsenal managed exactly that. The ability to rely on players like Eze from the bench shows the growing depth within the squad—something that could prove crucial if they truly intend to compete on multiple fronts.

If Arsenal are serious about chasing silverware this season, they will need stronger performances in the coming rounds. The margin for error becomes much smaller as the FA Cup moves closer to the final. ⚽
