Singida Black Stars Clear Super Eagles Goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of Match-Fixing Allegations

Singida Black Stars Clear Super Eagles Goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of Match-Fixing Allegations

Amas Obasogie has been officially cleared of match-fixing allegations by his Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars S.C. following an internal investigation.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper had earlier been suspended for three months after concerns were raised about his performance in several matches, including the club’s clash with Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup. Additional questions were also raised after league games against Pamba Jiji F.C. and Namungo F.C..

However, after reviewing the situation, the club confirmed that there was no evidence linking the Nigerian goalkeeper to match manipulation.

In an official statement, the club explained that the incidents which initially triggered suspicion were simply the result of technical errors during the matches, rather than deliberate wrongdoing.

“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the club stated.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, the 26-year-old has now been cleared to resume training and competitive duties with the team under head coach Othmen Najjar.

Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2024 after leaving Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema S.C., having previously made a name for himself in Nigeria with Bendel Insurance F.C..

Opinion: A Lesson on the Risks of Quick Judgments in Football

While the clearance will come as a huge relief for Obasogie, the episode highlights how quickly suspicions can damage a player’s reputation in modern football.

Match-fixing is a serious issue globally, and clubs are right to investigate any unusual performances. However, cases like this also show the importance of thorough investigations before conclusions are drawn.

For Obasogie, the next challenge will be rebuilding confidence—both from fans and within the team. Goalkeepers often operate under intense scrutiny, where a single mistake can appear far worse than it actually is.

If he returns to form and delivers consistent performances for Singida Black Stars, this controversy could eventually become just a small footnote in what many hope will be a long and successful career. ⚽
