Oyo FA Summons Sports Caster Shola Ayegbajeje Over Match-Fixing Allegations Against Shooting Stars
The Oyo State Football Association (OYSFA) has officially summoned popular Yoruba sports broadcaster, Shola Ayegbajeje of Prince FM 88.7, following explosive allegations of match-fixing against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in their recent Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixtures.
Ayegbajeje, a known voice in the Yoruba sports media space, alleged that the Ibadan-based club was involved in shady dealings during matches against Lobi Stars, Katsina United, and Remo Stars — games that have contributed to the club's current poor form.
In response, the OYSFA, through a letter signed by Secretary Kehinde Ojelowo, has summoned both Ayegbajeje and Shooting Stars Chairman, Babatunde Olaniyan David ‘Akoro’, to appear at its office on Monday, May 5 at 12 noon, inside the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
⚽ Shooting Stars Under the Spotlight
Currently sitting 11th on the NPFL log with 48 points, Shooting Stars are without a win in their last five matches, a form dip that has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike. Ayegbajeje's accusations have only added more fuel to the fire, casting a dark cloud over the club’s integrity and prompting urgent intervention from the state football governing body.
🎙️ Opinion: Bold Claims or Reckless Commentary?
While it’s important for journalists and broadcasters to speak truth to power in sports, allegations as serious as match-fixing must be backed by verifiable evidence. If Ayegbajeje has solid proof, this could mark a major turning point in the fight for transparency in Nigerian football. If not, it may set a dangerous precedent of irresponsible journalism that undermines trust in media and football governance.
At the same time, 3SC's recent slump cannot be ignored. Whether the poor results are due to tactical issues, player fatigue, or something more sinister is what fans and the OYSFA are now desperate to uncover.
⚖️ All Eyes on Monday’s Hearing
This case has stirred widespread discussion in football circles and could become a defining moment in how the NPFL handles accountability, both from clubs and the media. It's a test of transparency, due process, and the growing demand for integrity in Nigeria’s domestic football scene.
What are your thoughts?
Do you believe Shola Ayegbajeje has valid grounds for his accusations, or should sports broadcasters be more cautious with such serious claims?
