Shooting Stars Fire Back: Club Denounces Match-Fixing Allegations as Baseless Smear

The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has firmly debunked match-fixing allegations made by a sports presenter on an Ibadan-based radio station, labeling them “barbaric, baseless, and unfounded.”

The radio host accused the Oluyole Warriors of deliberately throwing away a two-goal lead against Katsina United and “selling out” their South West derby loss to Remo Stars—a match they lost 1-0. Even more sensationally, he claimed club Chairman Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan ‘Akoro’ allegedly tried to bribe match officials.

🔥 Club Response: “No Truth, No Interview, No Proof”

In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, 3SC management condemned the presenter’s unverified claims:

“We are compelled to react swiftly to these barbaric and unfounded allegations. No player, official, or representative of the club granted any interview to that radio station. We wonder how the presenter conjured these claims.”

The club expressed outrage over unprofessional journalism that directly names players and staff as part of a supposed conspiracy without evidence or authorization.

🗣 Opinion: Journalism or Defamation? There Must Be a Line.

While freedom of the press is crucial in democracy and sports accountability, it should never be a license for trial by microphone. Allegations of match-fixing are grave and reputation-damaging, especially in a league still rebuilding trust and global visibility.

Without proof, such claims are not whistleblowing—they are witch-hunting.

If genuine concerns about corruption exist, they must be backed with credible evidence and channeled through appropriate authorities, not just viral radio rants.

⚖️ What Next?

  • 3SC might explore legal options to clear its name.

  • The radio station and presenter could face backlash or regulatory sanctions.

  • And for fans and football lovers, this is a reminder to demand responsible sports reporting, not rumor-mongering in the name of “hot takes.”

📢 Until then, the focus should remain on the pitch—not on unsubstantiated headlines.
