Toyin Abraham Denies Role in Big Ayo’s Reported Re-Arrest, Calls Viral Claims Fake News

Toyin Abraham Denies Role in Big Ayo’s Reported Re-Arrest, Calls Viral Claims Fake News

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has debunked viral social media reports alleging that she was responsible for the re-arrest of X influencer Big Ayo, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The controversy began after an unverified post circulated online suggesting that Big Ayo had been re-arrested at the actress’s request. The claim quickly gained traction, sparking heated reactions and renewed debate about Abraham’s past clashes with online critics.

Reacting on Tuesday, Abraham dismissed the allegation, stating that she was on a movie set at the time and had no involvement in any arrest.

“Arrest Ayo as how, this is untrue information. I’m filming on set. Please disregard. It’s all love from me; I didn’t get Ayo or anyone else imprisoned,” she said.

Another X user, Prince Adeshina, also refuted the claim, noting that the actress was actively working during the period in question and had no link to the alleged incident. Abraham later amplified the clarification by resharing it on her page.

The renewed controversy has also revived memories of previous tensions between the actress and social media users, particularly following her legal action against individuals accused of cyberbullying her in 2024. At the time, Big Ayo was linked to allegations of persistent online harassment and defamatory remarks against the actress and her family.

Despite past legal disputes, Abraham maintained that she currently harbours no ill feelings and urged the public to ignore false reports being circulated online.

The situation highlights ongoing concerns about misinformation in Nigeria’s digital space and the speed at which unverified claims can escalate on social media.

Opinion

This incident is another clear example of how quickly misinformation can spiral in the age of social media. In the entertainment space especially, where public figures already face intense scrutiny, a single unverified post can reshape narratives within hours.

While Toyin Abraham’s past legal battles with online critics make her an easy target for speculation, this case shows why context and verification matter more than virality. The rush to assign blame without evidence not only damages reputations but also fuels unnecessary online hostility.

At the same time, it also reflects a broader issue—celebrities and influencers are now permanently exposed to digital “trial by social media,” where perception often replaces facts. In such an environment, both accountability for statements and restraint in sharing unverified claims are becoming increasingly important.
