Zaidu Sanusi Ruled Out of Porto Cup Semi-Final Second Leg Against Sporting
Zaidu Sanusi will miss the second leg of FC Porto’s Portuguese Cup semi-final clash against Sporting Lisbon due to injury.
The Nigerian left-back is still recovering after sustaining a knock during Porto’s league match against Tondela last weekend. He was forced off in the 62nd minute and replaced by Thiago Silva.
Sanusi also missed training on Tuesday as he continued his rehabilitation, with Porto head coach Francesco Farioli confirming his absence.
“Zaidu will remain out as he is still recovering,” Farioli stated via the club’s official website.
So far this season, the Nigerian international has contributed one goal and two assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Dragons.
Opinion: A Setback at a Crucial Stage of the Season
Injuries like this always feel more significant when they happen at the business end of a competition. For Porto, missing Sanusi is not just about losing a defender—it’s about losing balance on the left side, especially in high-intensity matches like a semi-final against Sporting Lisbon.
Sanusi has quietly built a reputation as a reliable and disciplined full-back, and while his numbers may not be flashy, his consistency is what makes him valuable in games like this.
The encouraging part for Porto is that his injury is being described as a recovery situation rather than something long-term. Still, timing matters in football, and missing a semi-final second leg is never ideal for any player or team.
For Sanusi, the focus now shifts to recovery and returning stronger, because in tight squad rotations, momentum can change quickly once opportunities come back around.
