Fariolli Hints at Possible Terem Moffi Debut as Porto Prepare for Sporting Lisbon Clash

Fariolli Hints at Possible Terem Moffi Debut as Porto Prepare for Sporting Lisbon Clash

FC Porto head coach Francesco Fariolli has suggested that Nigerian striker Terem Moffi could make his long-awaited debut for the club in tonight’s Primeira Liga showdown against Sporting Lisbon.

Moffi recently joined the Dragons on loan from Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, with Porto holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. However, the Super Eagles forward is still regaining match fitness, having not played a competitive game since November.

Speaking ahead of the high-profile encounter, Fariolli admitted that both Moffi and new signing Seko Fofana are still working towards full sharpness.

“Seko and Terem are working to get in top form; it will take time to get them to the level the others are already at, but they are working well with the performance department to maximize every opportunity to accelerate the process,” he said.

Despite fitness concerns, the possibility of featuring against a fierce rival like Sporting Lisbon could mark an important step in Moffi’s integration into Porto’s attacking setup.

Opinion:
Throwing a player into a high-intensity clash like Porto vs Sporting is always a gamble, but it could also be the spark Moffi needs to quickly adapt to Portuguese football. His physical style and finishing instincts have already proven effective in Europe, and Porto fans will be eager to see how he fits into Fariolli’s system.

Still, patience may be crucial. Rushing a striker returning from months without competitive action can carry risks, especially in a league where tactical discipline and fitness levels are demanding. If managed carefully, Moffi’s gradual introduction could become one of Porto’s smartest moves this season — not just for tonight’s game, but for their long-term attacking ambitions.
