Osimhen Refuses to Choose Sides in Yamal vs Olise and Ronaldo vs Messi Debate
Victor Osimhen has offered a diplomatic take on two of football’s most talked-about debates, refusing to separate emerging talents Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise, while also declining to pick between legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Galatasaray striker shared his thoughts during a quick-fire session with Berneese, where he was asked to name his preferred winger between Yamal and Olise—two players who have impressed significantly for their respective clubs this season.
“That’s a tough one. Permit me to pick both,” Osimhen said, highlighting the unique qualities of each player. “These guys are unique in their own craft. I think they are almost similar because they use the same foot. The way they read the game is different, so picking one is doing a huge disservice to the other.”
Osimhen carried the same balanced perspective into the long-standing Messi vs Ronaldo debate.
“It’s the same thing with Messi and Ronaldo. I go for both. I have never chosen any of them individually. Those two guys have been up there for almost 20 years,” he added.
Opinion: Smart Diplomacy or Avoiding the Hard Call?
Osimhen’s response may sound safe—but it’s also surprisingly insightful.
In an era where football debates are often reduced to “pick one or you’re wrong,” his refusal to choose reflects a deeper understanding of the game. Yamal and Olise represent different styles of modern wing play—one thrives on youthful unpredictability, the other on elegance and control. Comparing them directly can feel like forcing a rivalry that doesn’t need to exist.
The same applies to Ronaldo and Messi. For years, fans have been obsessed with crowning one as the greatest, often overlooking how their contrasting styles have enriched football. Ronaldo embodies power, discipline, and relentless ambition, while Messi represents creativity, vision, and natural genius.
By choosing both, Osimhen avoids the noise—and perhaps that’s the point. Not every debate needs a winner.
Still, in football culture, bold opinions often carry more weight than balanced ones. Fans love definitive answers, even when the reality is more complex. Osimhen’s stance may not satisfy everyone, but it quietly challenges the idea that greatness must always be measured by comparison.
Sometimes, appreciating brilliance on both sides is the more honest—and harder—choice.
