Ajibola Promises Long-Term Player Development Focus with Nigeria U-17 Team
Olumide Ajibola has pledged to bring his player development philosophy from Beyond Limits FA to the Nigeria U-17 national team following his recent appointment as assistant coach.
Ajibola will work alongside newly appointed head coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere as the team prepares for the WAFU B U-17 Boys Championship scheduled for September.
The tournament will also serve as the qualification pathway for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
Speaking about his new role, Ajibola described the opportunity as a major responsibility and emphasized the importance of building young players for the future rather than focusing only on short-term results.
“The work we do at Beyond Limits is about building players for the future, and that aligns directly with what the national setup requires,” he said.
Opinion
Ajibola’s comments point toward a more modern approach to youth football development in Nigeria — one that prioritizes technical growth, discipline, and long-term player progression.
For years, Nigerian youth football has produced talented players, but consistency in development structures has often remained a challenge. Coaches with academy experience can help bridge that gap because they understand how to nurture players beyond tournaments alone.
If properly supported, this kind of developmental mindset could benefit Nigeria’s football future, especially at youth level where raw talent still needs structure, mentoring, and continuity to fully mature.
