Davido, Victony and Timaya Join Nationwide Calls for Rescue of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren
Nigerian music stars Davido, Victony and Timaya have added their voices to growing calls for urgent action following the abduction of dozens of pupils, students and teachers in Oyo State.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen on May 15, 2026, from Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School in Esiele, all located within Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to reports, 39 students and seven teachers were abducted during the attack, while two teachers lost their lives, triggering widespread condemnation and concern across the country.
Reacting to the incident, Victony called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action to address insecurity and secure the release of the victims.
In a post on X, the singer wrote:
"Save our children & Put an end to this mess @officialABAT."
Davido also expressed his anguish over the situation, describing the continued suffering of the victims and their families as heartbreaking.
Responding to reports about the conditions faced by those still in captivity, the Afrobeats star shared an emotional message on Snapchat.
"I'm weak. God pls take control. We can't continue like this… my heart goes out to the victims and family .. this is messed up."
Meanwhile, Timaya urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to combat insecurity and protect citizens, particularly vulnerable children.
In a statement, the singer appealed for greater urgency and collaboration in tackling the country's security challenges.
"We appeal to the Government for even greater urgency, collaboration, and action in addressing the growing security challenges facing many parts of our country."
Growing Public Concern
The abduction has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with civil society groups, parents, community leaders and public figures demanding immediate intervention to secure the safe return of the victims.
School kidnappings remain one of the country's most troubling security challenges, often leaving families traumatised and disrupting access to education in affected communities.
Opinion: Celebrity Voices Matter, But Action Matters More
The reactions from Davido, Victony and Timaya reflect a growing sentiment among many Nigerians who are increasingly alarmed by recurring incidents of kidnapping and violence.
Celebrities occupy influential positions in society, and when they speak on issues affecting ordinary citizens, they can help amplify public concern and keep critical issues in the national conversation. Their comments also remind the public that insecurity is not merely a political issue but a humanitarian one affecting real families and communities.
However, beyond expressions of sympathy and public outrage, Nigerians are looking for concrete results. The safe rescue of the abducted children and teachers remains the immediate priority, while long-term solutions to insecurity must continue to be pursued.
The kidnapping of schoolchildren strikes at the heart of any society because it threatens both education and the future of young people. As calls for action grow louder, many citizens will be hoping that national attention translates into meaningful intervention and lasting security improvements.
For the families waiting anxiously for news of their loved ones, the message from across the country is clear: they are not alone, and the demand for the victims' safe return remains urgent.
