Manchester United Eye Brentford’s Igor Thiago as Joshua Zirkzee Faces Uncertain Future

Manchester United Eye Brentford’s Igor Thiago as Joshua Zirkzee Faces Uncertain Future

Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Brentford striker Igor Thiago as the club weighs up the future of forward Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils are said to be assessing their attacking options after Zirkzee struggled to make the desired impact following his £36.5 million move from Bologna two years ago.

The Dutch international has managed just nine goals in 75 appearances for United, leading to growing speculation that he could leave Old Trafford this summer.

Italian giants Juventus have been linked with a move for the striker, although no agreement has been reached.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Brentford's Igor Thiago has emerged as one of the names discussed internally by Manchester United as they evaluate potential reinforcements.

Speaking to The United Stand, Jacobs said:

"Igor Thiago has been discussed as somebody who's Premier League ready."

He added that discussions remain at an early stage.

"Nothing more than that at this stage, more of an internal conversation and a normal player call to understand his situation."

Jacobs also acknowledged that securing the Brazilian striker could prove challenging.

"Getting him out this summer is going to be incredibly difficult."

Thiago has built a reputation as a physically imposing forward with strong finishing ability, qualities that could appeal to Manchester United as they seek greater consistency in front of goal.

For now, however, any potential move remains in the exploratory phase, with United expected to monitor developments surrounding both Thiago and Zirkzee before making a final decision.

Opinion: United Need More Than a New Striker—They Need the Right Fit

Manchester United's reported interest in Igor Thiago suggests the club is continuing its search for a reliable focal point in attack. While Joshua Zirkzee's goal return has fallen short of expectations, replacing him should only happen if United are convinced they have identified a genuine upgrade.

Thiago has shown promise and is already familiar with the demands of English football, which could reduce the adaptation period that often comes with overseas signings. However, succeeding at Manchester United requires far more than physical attributes or goal-scoring potential. The pressure, expectations, and tactical demands at Old Trafford are significantly higher.

If United do decide to move on from Zirkzee, they must ensure the replacement aligns with the manager's long-term vision rather than becoming another short-term solution. With the club aiming to re-establish itself among Europe's elite, every transfer decision this summer could have a major impact on the direction of the season.
