Funmi Awelewa Breaks Silence on Betrayal, Says Years of Pain Have Left Her Exhausted
Nollywood actress Funmi Awelewa has opened up about the emotional struggles she has faced, revealing that repeated experiences of betrayal from people close to her have left her exhausted and hurt.
The Yoruba actress shared an emotional message on her Instagram page, explaining that it took her years to recover from betrayal and childhood trauma. She admitted feeling tired of repeatedly encountering people she believes have disappointed her.
According to Awelewa, the painful experiences she endured while growing up seem to have followed her into adulthood, leaving her battling loneliness and sadness.
“I’m tired!! For the first time!! I’m tired…” she wrote, adding that she has struggled with meeting the wrong people and finding genuine connections.
The actress said constant betrayal from family, friends, colleagues, and relationships has influenced her decision to keep to herself, describing herself as a “loner” because of the repeated disappointments she has experienced.
Her emotional post comes shortly after social media influencer Mandy Kiss accused Awelewa and actress Toyin Abraham of negatively affecting her life. Mandy Kiss described Awelewa as a major mistake in her journey and claimed her godmother contributed to her struggles.
Responding to the allegations, Awelewa denied wrongdoing, explaining that she only tried to guide Mandy towards a better path. She said she stopped communicating with her after her advice was repeatedly ignored and after discovering certain lifestyle choices she disagreed with.
The actress maintained that she never harmed Mandy or influenced her negatively, urging her to take responsibility for her own decisions.
Awelewa’s comments also come amid a wave of conversations among Nigerian celebrities about betrayal and broken trust. Other entertainers, including Destiny Etiko, Eucharia Anunobi, Uzee Usman, James Brown, and Tonto Dikeh, have recently shared messages about being hurt by people close to them.
While many of the posts did not mention specific names, they have sparked discussions about the pressures that come with fame, relationships, and trust in the entertainment industry.
For Awelewa, the message appears to be less about a single disagreement and more about years of emotional battles. Her public reflection highlights a reality many public figures face — that success and visibility do not always protect people from personal pain and disappointment.
