Super Falcons Maintain World Ranking As Africa’s No.1 Women’s Football Team
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their position as the highest-ranked women’s football team in Africa after maintaining 36th place in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings.
The ranking comes as a boost for the African champions, who continue to dominate the continent despite growing competition from other emerging women’s football nations.
The team, led by head coach Justine Madugu, recently strengthened their status with impressive performances in international friendlies against Senegal.
The Super Falcons secured a 2-1 victory in the first encounter, with goals from veteran forward Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne. They followed it up with an even more convincing performance in the second match, defeating Senegal 3-0, with Joy Omewa scoring twice and Oshoala adding another goal.
Nigeria’s consistency has kept them ahead of other African contenders, with South Africa, Ghana, Morocco and Zambia completing the continent’s top five teams in the latest rankings.
The continued dominance of the Super Falcons highlights the team’s long-standing influence in African women’s football. However, with countries like South Africa and Morocco making significant progress, maintaining the top spot will require continued investment, strong preparation and development of new talents.
For Nigerian fans, the ranking is another reminder that the Super Falcons remain a major force on the continent. Their challenge now is to convert this dominance into more success on the global stage and prove that Africa’s number one team can compete among the world’s best.
The next FIFA women’s world rankings are scheduled to be released on October 20, 2026.
