Carter Efe Responds After Babcock University Rejects Viral Certificate, Challenges School Over Controversy

Carter Efe Responds After Babcock University Rejects Viral Certificate, Challenges School Over Controversy

Nigerian content creator and skit maker Carter Efe has reacted to Babcock University’s statement distancing itself from a viral certificate linked to him.

The controversy started after Carter Efe claimed during a livestream that he had received an honorary certificate from the university following rapper Ycee’s comments about the rise of viral personalities in the entertainment industry.

However, Babcock University later released an official statement denying the authenticity of the certificate. The institution described the document circulating online as fraudulent and clarified that it does not award honorary certificates based on undergraduate academic performance. The university also stated that it has no degree classification known as “First Class Upper” and threatened legal action over the matter.

Responding during another livestream, Carter appeared to address the university’s reaction in his usual humorous style, claiming that the institution was searching for him.

“I hear say una dey find me. Una no go see me until una pay N100,000 ticket for me. Una no go see me,” he said.

He also announced that he would be visiting Babcock University soon, adding more drama to the already viral situation.

While the issue has generated reactions online, Carter Efe’s response highlights the entertainment culture where comedy, publicity and controversy often collide. Whether it was intended as a joke or a serious claim, the situation has once again placed the skit maker at the centre of public attention.

Beyond the certificate controversy, Carter has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years. He recently received a new car gift from music star D’banj, acquired a new house, and gained more recognition after defeating Portable in a celebrity boxing match, where he reportedly received a N50 million reward from businessman E-Money.

Carter Efe’s journey shows how Nigerian entertainers can turn online moments into major opportunities — but it also reflects the growing need for public figures to carefully manage claims that can attract institutional reactions.
