Rita Edochie Blames Polygamy for Mr Ibu Family Crisis, Says It Often Breeds Division

Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has shared her thoughts on the ongoing family dispute surrounding late actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, warning about the challenges that can come with polygamous homes.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, the actress described the public disagreement among members of Mr Ibu’s family over properties and other matters as painful to watch, saying the situation has become a reminder of the difficulties some families face after the death of a patriarch.

Rita stated that, in her view, polygamy has created more problems than solutions in many homes, arguing that issues such as rivalry, inheritance disputes, and divided loyalties often emerge when families are not properly managed.

She wrote that while every family has its own circumstances, the situation surrounding Mr Ibu’s family should serve as a lesson for people considering or already living in polygamous marriages.

Opinion:
Family conflicts after the passing of a loved one are unfortunately common, especially when wealth, responsibilities, and expectations are involved. While some polygamous families maintain strong bonds and unity, others struggle with unresolved tensions that surface during difficult moments. The bigger lesson may not only be about the structure of a family, but also about transparency, planning, and ensuring that everyone understands their place before a crisis happens.

Mr Ibu’s family dispute has once again sparked conversations about inheritance, family unity, and the importance of putting clear arrangements in place to prevent future battles.
