“I Will Represent Us Alone” — Rotimi Salami Celebrates Late Allwell Ademola’s Achievement After Posthumous Film Nomination
Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has expressed mixed emotions after a movie he worked on with his late colleague and close friend, Allwell Ademola, received international recognition.
Salami revealed on his Instagram page that their movie Kilanko earned a nomination at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival in Canada for the Best Film by a Female Filmmaker category.
While celebrating the achievement, the actor expressed sadness that Allwell would not be present to share the moment with him.
“Shuga Boo see o congratulations. Kilanko got you a nomination in Toronto, Canada. Best Film by a Female Filmmaker (Nollywood). So I will represent us alone abi? All is well sha,” he wrote.
The nomination comes months after the sudden death of Allwell Ademola, who passed away after suffering a heart attack at her residence.
Rotimi, who shared a close friendship with the actress, has openly spoken about the pain of losing her. He previously described how difficult it has been to move forward, noting that memories, videos and their shared works are now what remain.
The actor had also recalled how they spent several New Year celebrations together, praying and making wishes under the same roof, making her absence even more painful.
Despite the grief, Salami has continued to honour Allwell’s legacy, defending her contributions to Nollywood and celebrating her work whenever opportunities arise.
Opinion:
The posthumous recognition of Kilanko is a reminder that great creative works can continue speaking even after their creators are gone. For Rotimi Salami, the nomination is not just an award opportunity — it is a moment of pride mixed with the pain of missing someone who helped create the journey.
Allwell Ademola’s story also reflects the importance of preserving the legacies of talented people in Nollywood. While her absence is deeply felt, achievements like this show that an artist’s impact can continue long after their final performance.
