Gospel Singer Joseph Adelakun’s Daughter Appeals for Freedom, Alleges Years of Control
Funmi Adelakun, the 37-year-old daughter of veteran Nigerian gospel singer and televangelist Joseph Adelakun, has publicly appealed for help, accusing her father of mistreatment and excessive control over her life.
In a video shared on social media by Megatestimony, Funmi alleged that she had been subjected to years of monitoring and restrictions, prompting her to plead with members of the public to intervene.
According to reports, she has also left her family's residence in Lagos.
In the emotional video, Funmi appealed directly to Nigerians, asking them to help persuade her father to allow her to live independently.
"Good day everyone, my name is Funmi Adelakun. What I need is your help, please help me beg my father to set me free. I need my freedom because what is happening now is very deep."
She further alleged that she has been constantly monitored and denied the freedom to make personal decisions.
"They should stop monitoring me and try to have access to things about me. This has been going on for a long time. I need my freedom and this is the height of it. I will explain better soon."
The video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing concern and calling for the matter to be handled with sensitivity while awaiting further clarification from all parties involved.
As of the time of filing this report, Joseph Adelakun had not publicly responded to the allegations, and efforts to obtain his reaction were reportedly unsuccessful.
The circumstances surrounding the claims remain unclear, and no independent evidence has yet been presented to substantiate the allegations.
Opinion:
Family disputes involving public figures are often complex and emotionally charged, making it important to avoid rushing to conclusions based solely on one side of the story. Funmi Adelakun's appeal has understandably generated public concern, but fairness requires giving all parties an opportunity to respond. If the allegations involve issues of personal safety or unlawful restriction, they deserve careful attention from the appropriate authorities and support systems. At the same time, public discussions should remain measured, allowing the facts to emerge before judgments are made.
