World Cup 2026: Zanetti Warns Brazil of Haaland Threat, Hopes Neymar Returns

World Cup 2026: Zanetti Warns Brazil of Haaland Threat, Hopes Neymar Returns

Inter Milan vice president and Argentina legend Javier Zanetti has warned that Brazil will face one of their toughest tests of the tournament when they take on Norway in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Zanetti praised Norway's organization and highlighted the danger posed by star striker Erling Haaland, describing the Scandinavian side as a disciplined team capable of troubling any opponent.

"This will be a difficult match because Norway is a very well-organized team and they have a top striker like Haaland upfront," Zanetti said, according to All Football.

Despite acknowledging Norway's quality, the former defender believes Brazil's rich football tradition could prove decisive if they maintain full concentration throughout the encounter.

"I believe the Brazilian team must play this game with a high level of focus. However, in a competition of this level, a team's heritage and history can also be decisive factors, and Brazil precisely possesses these," he added.

Zanetti also expressed his hope that Brazilian superstar Neymar will feature in the match, insisting that football fans worldwide always want to see players of his calibre on the biggest stage.

"Neymar is an extraordinary player. I think anyone who truly loves football would want to see Neymar on the field."

Brazil booked their place in the Round of 16 after defeating Japan in the previous round, while Norway advanced by overcoming Ivory Coast.

Opinion

Zanetti's assessment is difficult to dismiss. Norway may not boast Brazil's World Cup pedigree, but with Haaland leading the attack and a tactically disciplined setup, they possess the ingredients needed to cause a major upset. Brazil's history and individual brilliance remain formidable weapons, but reputation alone will not be enough. If the Seleção underestimate Norway or fail to control Haaland's influence, they could find themselves facing one of the tournament's biggest surprises.
