Nimmy Ferrari Was Twenty-Six, And Died After Fibroid Surgery
Sagamu · Monday 7 September 2026
Nimmy Ferrari, an actress and producer working mainly in Yoruba-language film, died on Friday 5 September in Ogun State. She was twenty-six. Reports say she had undergone surgery to remove fibroids, went into a coma shortly afterwards, and died a few hours later.
She had been due to hold a housewarming party for a home she had just finished building in Sagamu.
What is known
She was born on 10 February 2000. She worked as an actress, a movie producer, a content creator and an influencer, and had built a following largely inside the Yoruba sector of Nollywood rather than through the English-language mainstream. She was buried according to Islamic rites.
The wider fact underneath this
Uterine fibroids are extremely common among Nigerian women, and myomectomy is a routine operation performed thousands of times a year in the country. Routine is not the same as risk free. The known complications are significant bleeding, anaesthetic reaction and post-operative clotting, and the outcomes depend heavily on where the operation is done and on what is available if something goes wrong in the first hour.
The difference between a routine procedure and a fatal one is often not the surgery. It is whether a blood bank, an intensive care bed and an anaesthetist are in the building at two in the morning.
Why this keeps being an entertainment story
Because the deaths that get reported are the ones with a public name attached. Nigerian women die from complications of common gynaecological surgery regularly, and it reaches the news when the woman was on television.
The useful response is not another round of speculation about her specific operation. It is the boring question of what facilities are equipped to handle a post-operative emergency, and whether patients are told the difference before they choose where to have the procedure.
Her family has asked for privacy. She was twenty-six, and days away from a party for a house she built herself.
