NWFL Sets New Kickoff Date and Fixtures for 2025 Nationwide League Promotion Playoff
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed a revised kickoff date, venue, and fixtures for the 2025 Nationwide League promotion playoff.
The competition, which serves as the entry platform for ambitious clubs aiming to rise through the women’s league structure, will now run from Friday, October 10, to Friday, October 17, at the Bwari Township Stadium, Abuja.
According to NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, the playoff will feature ten teams, split into two groups of five.
“The Nationwide competition remains a vital platform for clubs across the country to showcase their potential and progress through the league system,” Shabi stated on Wednesday.
At the end of the week-long tournament, the top two teams from each group will secure promotion to the NWFL Championship, the second tier of women’s football in Nigeria.
Opinion:
The rescheduled Nationwide League is more than just another playoff — it’s the lifeblood of Nigerian women’s football. For many of these clubs, the journey begins here, in Bwari, under the watchful eyes of scouts, fans, and administrators who know that the stars of tomorrow often rise from competitions like this.
Women’s football in Nigeria has always been rich with talent, but structure and opportunity have often lagged behind. That’s why the Nationwide League is so important: it doesn’t just give teams a pathway upward, it gives young players the belief that their hard work can translate into real progress.
The choice of Abuja as the venue is equally symbolic. Hosting the competition in the nation’s capital gives it visibility and prestige — a reminder that women’s football deserves as much spotlight as the men’s game.
Fans should keep a close eye on this playoff because it’s here that the raw passion, grit, and hunger for promotion ignite the kind of football stories that inspire the next generation. In the end, the four teams that emerge will not just win promotion — they will carry the hopes of Nigerian women’s football on their shoulders.
