Oladips Reveals He Was Detained by EFCC Over Unpaid Taxes, Not Fraud: “Nigeria Just Happened to Me”

Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has finally spoken about his shocking encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revealing that he was detained for tax evasion and not for any fraudulent activity.

The rapper, who once trended online after reports of his arrest, made this revelation during an interview on Hip TV, where he recounted the terrifying moment EFCC operatives stormed his estate in the early hours of the morning.

According to him, the incident took place around 3 a.m. in November 2024, when EFCC officials raided several apartments within his estate.

“It was just a normal night. EFCC entered my estate, going from house to house arresting people. I was on my bed pressing my phone because it’s none of my business. I don’t do fraud. Na person wey do fraud go dey run,” Oladips said.

He further revealed that his kitchen door was broken before officers entered his home and demanded his phone and laptop. After investigations, they reportedly found no link between him and any fraudulent activities.

“They didn’t find anything. That’s when one of their oga asked me, ‘Do you pay tax?’ That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax,” he narrated.

💭 Opinion: When Justice Misses the Point — Oladips’ Story and the Bigger Nigerian Reality

Oladips’ story is more than just a celebrity headline — it’s a reflection of the everyday chaos in Nigeria’s justice system, where fear replaces fairness and force often replaces facts.

While tax evasion is undeniably a legal issue, the approach raises questions: Must every enforcement start with a midnight raid? The rapper’s experience paints a vivid picture of how easily innocent citizens can be dragged into a system designed to fight crime but often ends up fighting confusion.

What makes this story hit harder is Oladips’ calm honesty. He didn’t deny the law’s existence — he simply highlighted the imbalance in how it’s enforced. It’s a reminder that accountability should go both ways: citizens must pay their dues, but authorities must also act with dignity and due process.

In a country where many young people already struggle to trust the system, stories like Oladips’ show why the fight against corruption must not lose its conscience.

Because when justice forgets humanity, even the innocent start to look guilty. 💭🇳🇬
