Elmohamady Fires Back at Carragher: “You’re the Real Disgrace”

Elmohamady Fires Back at Carragher: “You’re the Real Disgrace”

Former Aston Villa star Ahmed Elmohamady has publicly blasted Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher for his harsh criticism of Mohamed Salah, calling the retired defender “a disgrace” in a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter).

Carragher had earlier attacked Salah, describing him as a “disgrace” after the winger’s explosive interview where the Egyptian hinted that his time at Liverpool might be coming to an end. Although Carragher later backtracked and issued an apology on Tuesday, Elmohamady wasn’t having it.

The ex-Egypt international jumped to Salah’s defence, reminding the football world of the 33-year-old’s incredible journey and his impact on both club and country:

“Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances. He didn’t fail at Chelsea — he was never given the chance.”

Elmohamady praised Salah for going to Italy to rebuild his career before returning to England and becoming one of Liverpool’s greatest attackers of all time. He also stressed Salah’s iconic status in Africa:

“He became a Premier League legend. Egypt’s greatest ever player. One of the most consistent forwards of his generation. Salah earned everything.”

He didn’t stop there — Elmohamady took direct shots at Carragher’s own career, referencing moments when Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and José Mourinho dismissed the former Liverpool defender:

“No wonder you got blanked by C. Ronaldo. No wonder Messi called you out. No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in the top 1000 defenders in the PL.”

Opinion: Why This Defence Matters

Let’s be honest — Mohamed Salah is not just a footballer; he is an era-defining icon. A boy from Nagrig who rose above doubt, rejection, and underestimation to become a global star. Criticism of players is normal in football, but the word “disgrace” feels too careless for someone who has given Liverpool goals, trophies, unforgettable nights, and global relevance.

Salah has carried the hopes of millions — especially Egyptians — on his shoulders. He has taken his national team to heights they hadn’t seen in decades and continues to represent Africa at the highest level with grace and humility.

So Elmohamady’s reaction is not just a defensive rant — it is a reminder. A reminder that legends deserve respect. A reminder that words from influential pundits carry weight. And a reminder that football is not only about criticism… it’s also about acknowledging greatness when we see it.

No matter where Salah plays next or how his Liverpool story ends, his legacy is already written in gold.

And in that story, one thing is certain: Mohamed Salah is nobody’s disgrace.
