Klint Da Drunk Reveals Why He Quit Music After Watching 2Face Perform: “I Went Home Immediately”
Nigerian comedian Afamefuna Klint Igwemba, popularly known as Klint Da Drunk, has opened up about the surprising moment that made him abandon his dream of becoming a musician.
Speaking in a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, the comedian revealed that he was once pursuing music while studying at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu. However, everything changed the day he watched music icon 2Face Idibia perform live on campus.
According to him, the performance was so powerful that it made him realise—instantly—that music might not be his path.
“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school. One day when he got on stage to perform, after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home,” he recalled.
“I didn’t know our styles were different. If I had known, I would have continued making music. But thank God I didn’t. I like where I am.”
Before his switch to comedy, Klint Da Drunk was already making strides in music. He co-founded a music group with rapper Mr Raw, featured in the hit hip-hop classic ‘Obodo’, and even finished second in the Star Quest talent show back in 2002—losing to KC Presh.
Since embracing comedy, Klint has become a household name and has also featured in multiple Nollywood films including Men On The Run, Madam 10/10,Fast Cash, and Lost Kingdom.
Opinion: Sometimes Purpose Finds You — Even When You Think You’re Losing Something
Klint Da Drunk’s story is a perfect example of how destiny can redirect one’s life in the most unexpected ways.
Many young creatives struggle with self-doubt, especially when they compare themselves to people who seem far more talented. Klint’s reaction to 2Face’s performance—simply going home—sounds humorous, yet it reflects a truth many can relate to. Sometimes, witnessing someone else’s brilliance forces you to question your own path.
But what makes his story inspiring is not the fear that made him leave the hall; it is the wisdom that guided him towards where he was meant to shine brighter—comedy.
Today, Klint is not just a Nigerian comedy icon; he is a pioneer who helped shape the stand-up comedy industry from its early days. Had he stubbornly pursued music, he may never have built the legendary character “Klint Da Drunk” that has entertained millions.
His journey is a reminder that:
Comparison is not always the enemy—sometimes it’s a compass.
Redirection is not failure, it’s often divine guidance.
Your lane is yours, and there is greatness waiting once you step into it fully.
Klint’s career proves that success is not about where you start but where you fit best. And sometimes, all it takes is hearing someone sing “just two lines” to realise you’re meant for something greater.
