FRSC Warns Celebrities and Influencers Against Reckless Driving Amid Peller Crash

FRSC Warns Celebrities and Influencers Against Reckless Driving Amid Peller Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to celebrities, social media influencers, and content creators about the dangers of using public roads for online content creation. The warning comes in the wake of a viral video showing popular TikTok personality, Peller, live-streaming while driving, which reportedly led to a road crash.

Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed described the act as both dangerous and illegal, emphasizing that using a phone to record, stream, or create content while driving distracts drivers and endangers lives. He noted that such behaviour is a clear violation of traffic laws.

In response to the incident, Mohammed directed the Lagos State sector commander to commence legal proceedings against individuals involved in reckless driving, phone use while driving, or any form of distracted driving, in accordance with existing traffic laws.

The FRSC chief also appealed to actors’ guilds, entertainment groups, and influencer networks to educate their members on responsible driving practices. “Celebrities and influencers have a strong influence on young people and should promote safety, not dangerous behaviour,” he said, adding that no social media trend or online popularity is worth a human life.

Mohammed further reminded Nigerians that public roads are shared spaces meant to protect lives, not filming locations, and urged citizens to report dangerous driving whenever they witness it.

Opinion: Influence Comes With Responsibility

This incident highlights a crucial lesson for public figures: influence carries responsibility. In today’s digital age, young fans often emulate the behaviour of their favourite celebrities, making reckless acts on the road more than just personal mistakes—they become dangerous examples.

The FRSC’s firm stance sends a clear message that fame does not grant immunity from the law. While the urge to create engaging content is understandable, it should never come at the cost of lives. Influencers and celebrities must recognize that their platform can be a force for good—promoting safe driving habits could save countless lives.

Ultimately, this episode is a wake-up call for both content creators and the public: entertainment should never override safety, and responsible behaviour should always come first, both on and off the camera.
