AFCON 2025: Omar Marmoush Backs Egypt to Reclaim Continental Glory
Egypt forward Omar Marmoush has expressed strong confidence in the Pharaohs’ ability to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the team has the quality and mentality to return to the top of African football.
The Pharaohs remain the most successful nation in the history of the competition, having lifted the AFCON trophy a record seven times. However, their most recent outing ended in disappointment, as they failed to progress beyond the group stage at the last edition of the tournament.
Despite that setback, Marmoush believes the current squad is well-equipped to mount a serious title challenge. Speaking via Foot Africa, the attacker struck an optimistic tone about Egypt’s ambitions.
“We are going to win the Africa Cup of Nations, of course, and then the World Cup,” Marmoush said confidently.
Egypt have been drawn in Group B, where they will face South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Angola in what promises to be a competitive opening round.
Opinion: Confidence Is Egypt’s First Weapon
Marmoush’s bold declaration may sound ambitious, but it reflects a mindset Egypt desperately needs after recent disappointments. The Pharaohs’ early exit last time out was a wake-up call, and with legendary status to protect, there is always pressure to deliver.
What works in Egypt’s favour is pedigree. Few teams understand AFCON football like the Pharaohs, and history shows that they often thrive when expectations are questioned. Group B will test their consistency, but it also offers a chance to send an early statement of intent.
If Egypt can blend experience with renewed hunger, Marmoush’s confidence may not be misplaced. AFCON 2025 could be the stage where the Pharaohs remind Africa—and the world—why they remain one of the continent’s true football giants.
