Osigwe Calls for Experienced Reinforcements as Kun Khalifat Plot Mid-Season Rebuild
Kun Khalifat FC head coach, Emmanuel Osigwe, has revealed plans to strengthen his squad with experienced players during the upcoming mid-season transfer window, as the Umuahia-based side looks to steady their campaign.
Osigwe made this known following Kun Khalifat’s narrow 1–0 home defeat to Abia Warriors at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday, a result that exposed the team’s lack of experience in key moments of the game.
According to the coach, adding seasoned professionals will not only improve results but also help accelerate the development of the club’s young players.
“Will talk to the proprietor of Kun Khalifat FC. We need good players, not amateur players,” Osigwe told Puyaka.
“We need professional players who have played in the league—two or three of them.”
The coach admitted that while the team boasts promising young talents, their recent performances have shown the need for leadership, composure, and game management—qualities often associated with experienced campaigners.
Opinion: Experience Could Be the Missing Piece
Osigwe’s assessment is both honest and timely. Youthful energy and enthusiasm can take a team far, but without experienced heads on the pitch, crucial matches often slip away—just as Kun Khalifat’s clash with Abia Warriors demonstrated.
A blend of youth and experience remains the formula for sustainable success in competitive leagues. Bringing in two or three proven professionals could provide leadership in the dressing room, calmness during high-pressure moments, and valuable mentorship for the younger players.
If the club’s management backs the coach during the transfer window, Kun Khalifat FC could turn recent setbacks into a turning point. Sometimes, all it takes is the right mix of experience and hunger to transform a struggling side into a competitive force.
