Don Jazzy Warns Social Media Impersonator Over Fake Giveaway
Nigerian music mogul Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has issued a stern warning to a social media user impersonating him. The fake account recently posted a message inviting followers to participate in a supposed giveaway, using Don Jazzy’s name and image, which misled many unsuspecting fans.
Addressing the impersonator via his verified X account, Don Jazzy advised that any giveaways should be conducted under the impersonator’s own identity, cautioning that misleading followers could result in legal consequences.
“Good evening sir/ma. Don’t you see how using my name and image on this account looks dodgy? You can do your giveaways with your own name and pic if you really want to help people. Don’t say they are bullying you if you get arrested o. I come in peace,” he wrote.
Opinion: The Importance of Digital Accountability
This incident highlights a growing issue in the digital age—identity impersonation and online scams. Celebrities, in particular, are frequent targets, and their fans often fall victim to fraudulent activities. Don Jazzy’s response is a timely reminder that personal branding carries legal weight, and the online community must exercise caution when engaging with offers from unverified sources.
While social media provides an accessible platform for engagement and philanthropy, it also demands responsibility and accountability. By publicly addressing the impersonator, Don Jazzy not only protects his fans but also sets a standard for how public figures can safeguard their reputation and deter fraudulent behavior.
