Stanley Eguma Optimistic as Enyimba Ends Winless Streak
Enyimba’s technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, has expressed optimism about a stronger second half of the season after guiding the club to a much-needed victory against Lobi Stars on Monday. The nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions finally ended their six-game winless run across all competitions, thanks to a first-half strike from Ifeanyi Ihemekwele.
The hard-fought victory not only gave Enyimba their first win of the second stanza but also injected fresh hope into their campaign. Speaking after the match, Eguma acknowledged the team's slow start to the season but believes they are beginning to find their rhythm.
“It’s a good performance and a good result. We drew at home, and now we’ve won away,” he said.
“I joined this team recently, and the players are gradually understanding my philosophy, just as I am getting to know them better. This growing understanding is the reason we got this result.”
Despite the win, Eguma admitted that the team is still concerned about their league position but remains focused on climbing up the table.
“We’re gradually putting our first-round struggles behind us, but we’re still worried about our position in the league table. Our focus is to improve our standing.”
A Step in the Right Direction for Enyimba?
For a club of Enyimba’s stature, struggling for form is never acceptable. The People’s Elephant are used to dominating Nigerian football, and their current struggles have been a source of concern for their passionate supporters. However, with Eguma beginning to instill his philosophy, there is renewed hope that the team can regain its competitive edge.
Ending the six-game winless streak is significant, but consistency is key. Their next test comes on Sunday against Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo—a crucial fixture that could determine if this victory was a turning point or just a temporary relief.
Will Enyimba Rise Again?
Enyimba remains a powerhouse in Nigerian football, but the NPFL is increasingly competitive. Clubs like Rivers United, Remo Stars, and Enugu Rangers are pushing hard for dominance, and if Enyimba wants to reclaim their place at the top, they must build on this momentum.
Eguma’s impact is starting to show, but the real test lies in how the team performs in the coming weeks. Can Enyimba rise again and push for a strong finish to the season? Fans will be hoping that this win marks the beginning of a new chapter for the People’s Elephant.
