José Mourinho Speaks on Relationship with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Rúben Amorim
Fenerbahçe boss José Mourinho has opened up about his ties with Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and their current manager, Rúben Amorim.
Mourinho, who previously managed United between 2016 and 2018, winning three trophies, described his relationship with Ratcliffe as positive, though not particularly close.
On Rúben Amorim’s United Struggles
Mourinho also spoke about Rúben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November but has struggled to impress, winning just 11 of his 24 matches in charge.
Reflecting on their history, Mourinho revealed that Amorim once visited Old Trafford for a week-long internship under his mentorship back in 2018.
“He’s a good kid,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“Always very respectful to me. We had a good relationship for a few years. He knows I wish him well.”
However, with United facing inconsistent performances under Amorim, the Portuguese coach will need to turn things around quickly to win over both fans and the club’s hierarchy.
On Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United’s Cost-Cutting Measures
Mourinho also addressed Ratcliffe’s impact at United, as the club undergoes significant cost-cutting measures, leading to 250 job losses, with an additional 200 roles at risk.
“To be honest, I don’t know much about what’s happening,” Mourinho admitted.
“I know Sir Jim Ratcliffe. I’m not saying we are big friends, but we have a good relationship.
“I know him well. He invited me to his house a couple of times. I see him as a good person and a great businessman.
“Of course, I feel for some of the people that I know [losing their jobs], but hopefully, it goes in the right direction.”
Opinion: What Does This Mean for United?
Mourinho’s words reflect United’s turbulent phase as Ratcliffe restructures the club, and Amorim struggles to bring stability on the pitch. While the former manager remains diplomatic, his subtle remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding United’s future.
With Amorim yet to prove himself, and Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting raising concerns among staff and fans, the coming months will be crucial. Will Manchester United finally find their rhythm under Amorim, or is another managerial change looming? 🤔⚽
