“They Ordered My Execution” — Veteran Actor Yemi My Lover Recounts Near-Death Ordeal During Military Era
In a heart-wrenching and deeply emotional revelation, veteran Nigerian actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has opened up about a life-altering experience that nearly cost him his life — and ultimately derailed his career.
In an exclusive interview with YouTuber Mr LilGaga, the actor detailed how, in 1996, he was falsely accused, beaten, and nearly executed on the orders of one Major Adeoye during Nigeria’s military regime.
"I Was Marked for Death Over What I Knew Nothing About"
Yemi narrated that on April 19, 1996, while at his office on Lagos Island, four armed soldiers barged in and summoned him to Alausa, Ikeja, where he encountered Major Adeoye.
“They accused me falsely. I didn’t know what they were talking about. I was beaten and the major ordered them to kill me. It was God’s mercy that saved me when another officer intervened at the last moment,” he recounted, his voice trembling with emotion.
He was detained alongside five of his staff and left to suffer the consequences of a crime he never committed. In his fight for freedom, he spent over ₦500,000, selling everything he owned — his house, car, and personal belongings — just to regain his liberty.
“That experience shattered my life and career. Since then, things haven’t been the same,” Yemi said, adding that the psychological and financial trauma remains a lingering scar.
A Cry for Help, A Plea for Redemption
Now, nearly three decades later, the actor is calling for support to return to the movie industry that once adored him. A legend in Yoruba cinema, Yemi My Lover is remembered for his iconic 1993 movie that captured the hearts of Nigerians and earned him a lasting place in Nollywood history.
“I just need the right connection to get back on my feet,” he pleaded.
Why We Must Listen
This isn’t just a story about a celebrity’s struggle — it’s a reflection of the cruelty of unchecked power, the trauma left by military oppression, and how one wrongful act can rewrite a man’s destiny. In a country where many still bear silent wounds from past regimes, Yemi’s voice stands out as a painful but powerful reminder of resilience and faith.
Let’s Give Him His Flowers — And a Second Chance 🌺
Nollywood, fans, and stakeholders must not look away. We owe it to Yemi — and to history — to ensure that our heroes are not forgotten, nor left to fade in silence.
Yemi My Lover may have been silenced in 1996, but in 2025, his story deserves to rise again.
