“I Didn’t Know Elesho Was My Dad Until I Was 10” – Comedian Yemi Elesho Shares Emotional Backstory
Nigerian comedian and actor, Yemi Elesho, has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life — revealing that he had no idea veteran actor Adewale Elesho was his father until he turned 10.
In a candid interview with actress Biola Bayo, Yemi recounted growing up in Oyo State, living solely with his mother and, at times, his grandmother. According to him, he never had the courage to ask questions about his father — until a life-changing moment during a casual movie night.
“I grew up in Oyo, and till I was 5/10 years old, I didn’t know that Elesho was my dad,” he revealed.
“One day, we were watching a film and my mum was like, ‘That is your dad’.”
A Bold Move
Driven by curiosity and longing, Yemi made a daring decision as a teenager — he left home in search of his father in Lagos, leaving only a letter behind for his mother with instructions not to look for him.
This bold move marked a turning point in his life, eventually leading to his stronger connection with the entertainment world, much like his father.
Shoutout to Yhemo Lee
Yemi also used the opportunity to appreciate nightlife personality Yhemo Lee, who he described as remarkably generous.
“Shout out to Yhemo Lee. As long as you’re out with him when he’s around, he pays all our bills. After eating, none of us paid; he would clear everything,” he said with gratitude.
Yemi Elesho’s story is a touching reminder of the hidden journeys behind many entertainers, filled with surprises, sacrifices, and resilience. His success today is not just a product of talent but also of a powerful personal story that continues to inspire.
